The story of the property dates back to 1856 when Ernest Gruene invested on the property with the wooden structure sitting on a half-acre of property. Growing up in Germany and married to Antoinette Kloepper, Gruene had just come to America seeking a better life and his own freedom. He built the Welsh Barn, where he resided with his family until he completed building the farmhouse. With the increase in property and family, the Gruene Estate’s current owners aim to stay true to its century-old roots and heritage.

Situated in a private secluded area, the property consists of several structures including the 1857 home of Ernst and Antoinette Gruene, a glorious wedding chapel. It is definitely the stunning open-air chapel surrounded by nature which gives this area an ethereal and enchanting aura. Currently owned by Dr. Daniel and Anna Lisa Tamez, the estate has retained the integrity of the farmhouse’s historical architecture and its stories. Having respected its heritage, the owners conducted several functional upgrades and restorations and additionally purchased 10 acres of land behind the home with the vision of restoring the property to its original size and glory. As the property offers the grounds to the public, the Tamez family accomplishes to add to the progress of the community along the lines of the same attributes of the Ernst Gruene family. While the time has changed ten folds, it seems like nothing really has changed, as the yard is still filled with shared companionship, family love, and laughter.

With the capacity to accommodate 250 guests and the beauty to keep them absolutely enthralled throughout the day, Gruene Estate is a farm that seamlessly combines nature with antiquity. The property is decorated with the focus on nature and unique decor elements, which is reflected in the pretty stainless chandeliers, string lights, and the one-of-a-kind chandelier tree. The reception seating easily seats up to 250 people and there are plenty of French baskets and containers for flowers and candles for a rustic romantic effect. The handmade tables and chairs are crafted out of reclaimed Iowa barn wood, adding to the rustic elegance. The winning cherry on the top is the large fire pit surrounded by Adirondack chairs, which is the perfect and cozy way to put an end to the wedding day.
