Nellie and Daniel’s Unforgettable Wedding + Engagement Session, Kansas City

12-13-18

We love it when we get to see couples in both their engagement sessions and wedding photos, like Nellie and Daniel. Having engagement photos will give you and your partner a good variety of images. You end up with the best photos of your journey from fianceé to spouse.

Nellie and Daniel selected the location of Unity Village for their engagement photo session, one of our favorite locations in Kansas City. Their photographer used the striking backdrops to enhance the images. We love how the yellow wall complements the bride's dress in their engagement photos.

The couple included their dogs in both their engagement and their wedding photos! Bringing your personality into the photos can make the difference in getting truly stellar wedding photography. We love to see couples include their four-legged best friends in photos, even though it can require some additional planning.

Using the location as a prop is another pro move. We love how Nellie and Daniel placed their feet around the circular stone engraved with the word "Love" during their engagement session. This is the type of playful photo that comes in handy for Save the Dates or wedding websites.

From the sunny summer feel of their engagement session, Nellie and Daniel transitioned to warm, winter magic for their wedding. The wedding venue, Beck Event Space, was the perfect fit for the couple's cozy winter affair.

Nellie began the day by getting ready with her bridal party. For their "getting ready" look, the ladies donned matching flannels. Flannel is a staple for fall and winter weddings. We love this choice to keep the bridesmaids feeling warm and the photos looking flawless.

The whitewashed brick walls and high ceilings made for an unforgettable backdrop. We love the photos of Nellie's dress hanging from the rafters, and we are obsessed with the matching red sneakers the couple wore for their wedding. The comfortable footwear choice was made even better with the personalization on the back.

Nellie chose a strapless wedding dress for the big day. The simple silhouette was enhanced by the lave overlay on the dress. Her bridesmaids wore mix-matched scarlet dresses. The trend of letting your bridesmaids pick their own silhouette is one we continue to love.

Daniel wore grey, keeping it slightly more casual in a grey vest with no jacket. We love the way he paired a grey wool vest with his bowtie. It goes to show that you don't need bright colors to make something feel special. Texture can be everything. His groomsmen wore grey suits with suspenders, a look that felt complementary while also giving Daniel room to shine.

The wedding party moved outside for portraits. We loved the variety of backdrops the venue provided. The wooden door brought something rustic. The brick walls added an industrial, old-fashioned feel. The door on the corner provided the perfect well-worn, vintage backdrop. Of course, we love that their precious pooches got in on some wedding portrait action, too!

If you're planning to take photos outside for a fall or winter wedding, you might want to consider wraps as your gift to the bridesmaids. Whether or not you wear them in the photos, the wraps will help them keep warm and cozy while you're working to get the perfect shot.

We love the way the couple made ample use of greenery in their flowers. The bouquets, the ceremony flowers, and the reception decor all made excellent use of this fall and winter wedding staple.

The Beck Event Space wedding venue did so much of the décor work on its own. The brick walls and high ceilings made it feel sophisticated and airy. The floral arch brought a nice touch of warmth to the space. The reception was expansive and exquisite. Loft spaces can be great if you want a venue that feels modern and grand.

Nellie and Daniel had one more surprise rolled up their sleeves when it came to dessert. Instead of a traditional cake topper, the couple had Funko Pop! cake toppers that looked like each of their faces. The most delicious cake toppers we've ever seen!
