Fresh Takes on Rustic Decor

04-12-18

Whether it’s 2005 or 2018, countryside or metropolitan, rustic weddings never go out of style. Why not bring the rustic wedding trend into modern times? We thought of some ideas to help you plan your rustic wedding with a dash of modernism.

Make it your own

Rustic-themed weddings have been popular for decades (DIYs were huge with our ancestors, right?) but customization and Pinterest-ability are what today is all about, turning that tried and true barn wedding theme into a rustic glam affair full of persona and pizzazz. Play with your own idea of what rustic means, and let the rustic wedding decor mirror your own personality and preferences. Need a starting point for planning your rustic wedding? Explore different color combos here and get inspired.

Incorporate natural elements with the unexpected

Woodsy elements are almost synonymous with rustic décor. Whatever the venue, woodsy details and other natural elements incorporate rustic sass. Include barrels, wooden crates and wood slices to add dimension and height to your reception or wedding décor. Or, consider touches of twine in unexpected places. Wrapped around candle holders, hand-tied on bouquets and tied around napkins are great places to include the fiber. We think it’s an easy added detail that feels new. Keep your rustic elements feeling fresh and modern paired with metallic accents. The addition of luxe fabrics like satin, tulle or velvet creates a modern feeling, too.

Let the flowers make a statement

Instead of going for the classic rustic choice, wildflowers, opt for flowers in bold, saturated hues. They’ll give a burst of color to contrast nicely with the natural elements and earthy tones. Flowers inside mason jars can be used as table centerpieces or hung beside aisle chairs. Pair your nakedcake with a bit of greenery or bold flowers for decoration. You can’t go wrong with flowers!

Throw in a dash of whimsy

Bring out your animal and bird friends to add another dimension to your rustic wedding. Lanterns & bird cages will bring a whimsical element to rustic wedding decor. We’ve loved seeing lanterns used for candles, centerpieces and aisle markers, while bird cages make great card holders and dress up dessert displays.

Display it creatively

Antique windows and window shutters, dressers and tabletops can make for great wedding displays. If you’re thinking of how to display your escort cards or seating arrangements, we love old windows and window shutters. Dressers, tabletops and other furniture can be brought in for a rustic touch to your dessert table or cake display.

Your wedding is all about having fun with your loved ones and creating a day that’s unique to you and your soon-to-be-spouse, so make planning choices that feel personal and comfortable. Make your own mark on the rustic wedding theme!
