How to Build Your Own Holiday Hot Chocolate Bar

12-23-16

After the I do’s and exchanging of the rings, it’s time to begin the celebrations! With the cold winter chill setting in, there’s nothing better to keep your guests feeling festive than a DIY hot chocolate bar at your reception. With some carefully selected decor pieces, and the right ingredients, you’ll be on your way to a simple and beautiful display that your guests are sure to remember.

In building your hot chocolate bar, one of the first things to consider is the decor. With a few simple pieces you can make a stand out display that won’t break the bank. Gather festive pieces from home that follow a similar color scheme or pattern, or mix and match and have fun!

With our own display, we wanted to create a festive environment with dimension. We used a few small wooden blocks to create levels to both visually enhance the look, while also making the toppings or ingredients more accessible to guests.

It’s all in the details! Instant snow and twinkle lights add an extra boost of playful holiday spirit. We found our "snow" at papersource (only $5!) and our blizzard in a can even came with a tiny shovel! Check other craft stores for unique decor pieces that are sure to set your wedding apart.

Include as few or as many ingredients as you like for your own display! The possibilities are endless, but we would also recommend considering hot fudge, caramel sauce, fresh whip cream, chocolate shavings, and spices. Find a few large mugs, tea cups, or bowls to hold your toppings while also pulling double duty as beautiful decor pieces as well.

One of the benefits of setting up a buffet style bar is that your guests will have the ability to create their own perfect holiday beverage. It never hurts to lend a helping hand, however. Grab a chalkboard, or create a few framed signs with your suggested recipes to include within your display.

For some of the adult guests, an alcoholic option is sure to be a crowd pleaser! Baileys, Kahlua, or a vanilla vodka are all great additions to any of your hot chocolate recipes.
