Magnolia Plantation

Located on a bend of the Ashley River on the western side of Charleston is the Magnolia Plantation, a historic house and grounds that is a fantastic spot for your engagement shoot. Open to the public since the late 19th century, the Plantation is the oldest public garden in the United States and has been selected as one of the most beautiful gardens in America. 

Here you’ll find yourself transported amongst ancient trees and flowers that bloom year-round like camellias, daffodils, azaleas, or many other kinds of blossoms. The gardens keep the feeling of a lush, natural retreat punctuated by creeping vines, wandering branches of live oak trees, gorgeous white bridges, and trees hanging with Spanish moss. You’ll fall in love with the romance of the location and the different elements that you discover as you explore, from the rough-hewn wooden fences to the stone-lined limestone walkways. The house is also a fantastic example of plantation architecture with its white pillars, brick walls, covered gables, and porches.
