As a kid, I had envisioned myself working for National Geographic. I studied photography in art school. It gave me the ability to think in terms of photography from an artist's perspective. I didn't fall in love with wedding photography until years later, but it is clear to me that all of my experiences helped to shape how I photograph weddings. Every wedding is like a new little adventure for me. I enjoy putting myself in someone else's world, recording all of the love and joy of that day, knowing that the photos I make will be important to the couple, to their family forever. It's a huge responsibility, one I don't take lightly. That being said, I take my job seriously but don't act that way. I want the couples I photograph to have the best day and I will be there along the way celebrating, too.
I always strive for a modern yet timeless look. I like beautiful, clean images that convey a sense of romance. Most of the day I will document what I see but I am not a strict photojournalist who won't make minor adjustments. If the makeup artist is drinking a Big Gulp that will be in every frame, I will move it. I like to fade into the background until it is time for portraits, with the couple, with the bridal party, with the family....bring it! And I won't forget to capture those candids and plenty of detailed shots.
I love being able to document one of the most important days in a person's life. I am able to be creative, to collaborate with the couple getting married. They choose the venue, the decorations, the type of ceremony and reception and I get to put my spin on it at the same time delivering photos that make my clients happy. It's fast past, never boring and always different from the last.
