With an eclectic mix of natural elements and urban edge, Venice Beach, CA set the perfect scene for Kate and Jonny’s laid back engagement session.

This west coast couple stayed totally relaxed and true to themselves with every intriguing backdrop. And that authenticity came through shot after shot. The more natural you act in front of the camera, the more real your photos feel.

We love that these two really explored their surroundings. Kate and Jonny made the most of their diverse urban setting, posing in front of street murals, sculptural art and an iconic parade of palm trees.

From weathered wood to white-washed brick, local buildings served as unique backdrops that allowed their photographer to play with color and texture—visually transporting them to different destinations all in one place.

Even nature took on a bold role in this session. Alive with vibrant color, a floral wall of violet blooms created a vivid spot for Kate and Jonny to shine.

Wardrobe-wise, Kate and Jonny played it cool. Jonny was relaxed and handsome in a checkered collared shirt with rolled sleeves and shades. Kate wore distressed jeans and an airy white camisole that nodded to her bride-to-be status. The California sun called for sunglasses—a practical, but playful prop for photos.

This urban engagement session was a breath of fresh California air.
