If you're wondering which trends are all the rage in the wedding world right now, you may get a range of different opinions depending on who you ask. But, there's one thing we can all agree on -- rustic is here to stay! A few weeks ago, we brought you a Dallas wedding that incorporated this popular theme, and today we're bringing you another rustic gem straight from D.C.! We wanted to get a sense of what went into planning this sweet soirée, so we asked the bride, Morgan, to do the honors! P.S. Young and I are both very laid back people who love nothing more than to be surrounded by family and friends, so the idea of having a rustic/country wedding BBQ was ideal for us. When searching for ideas and flipping through magazines, I was always drawn to the photos of barn receptions. In our area, it's hard to find a barn that can be used for events, but we were lucky enough to stumble upon Hiddencroft Vineyards, who recently acquired a barn on site. It was perfect! Clyde and Terry, the owners, had never hosted a wedding before, and coincidentally we had never thrown a wedding before, so we were able to work through the process together.
The whole event could not have been done without the help of all our family and friends. Every detail of the wedding was touched by a loved one. My mother, father and brother put in tireless hours to create the details of the wedding, including the altar, chalkboards and lanterns. Almost every decorative piece was handmade. The invitations were done by my maid of honor Christa White. My dress was almost completely changed from its original shape by the ladies at Global Bridal in Alexandria, VA. My hair and makeup was done by my friends at Avenue West Salon in Frederick, MD. Our caterer Doug is a family friend and owner of Dish Bistro in Charlestown, WV, as well as the new restaurant Domestic in Shepherdstown, WV, and he prepared all of the side dishes and bartenders for the wedding. Our good friends, Charlie and Bob, provided their award-winning Texas BBQ, which was absolutely fantastic. Our DJ was Dan from Integral DJs based out of Washington, D.C. He was awesome; we gave him a general idea of our musical interest and he ran with it. Not one bad song all night!
Our flowers came from Martin's in Charlestown, WV; the bouquets (one of my favorite things at the wedding) were put together by Susie, a friend of my mother's. Our floral arrangements and reception decor were put together by close family friends and my mother's business partners, Bonnie, Cassie and Andrea at Dream House. Andrea also stepped in and acted as wedding coordinator the day of. We decided to go a different route from the traditional wedding cake and had pies made by a long time friend, Karen Harshman. They were such a hit! We also spent the night before the wedding making miniature pies at my parent's house. My mother, MOH and even my father sat around the table pressing pie dough into mini mason jars. It's a memory I'll always hold on to.
Our photography and videography was done by George Street Photo & Video and turned out beautifully. They really captured the wedding the way we wanted. Last, but certainly not least, our honeymoon was set up by Jim at Perfect Honeymoons. It was a trip of a lifetime, one that will be hard to live up to! We really could not have had such a perfect wedding day without all the help from our friends and family. Having their involvement made the day all the more special.
